There is something very unbalanced about it, and I can't put my finger exactly on what it is. The framing is okay, the makeup and concept are interesting and well-executed, and the expression is interesting. I think what's bothering me is the shadow on the left and under her face. Things get too dark in there, and my eyes gets lost in the black shadow-- the whole lower left of the photo is gone. That could work, but it needs to be finessed a little more to make it seem...more intentional, more finessed, I think.
Otherwise a nice photo, seems like it would illustrate the concept well.
It's going to be hard writing 100 words about this, as I am quite honestly blown away by this picture. What strikes me the most are the textures on the skin, emphasized by the paint. The hazel color of the eyes wonderfully complements the brown and beige paint, and I'm also very fond of the black clothing and background that seems to create some kind of frame, making it easy to focus on the face. Most importantly though are the message and emotion conveyed by this picture. Of course there are different interpretations; personally I see a duality between hope and confinement. I would like to think the hope prevails.
